...and so everything is changing!?

Picture
The day I was supposed to post this blog, the Covid-19 virus came, and turned the world upside down. Suddenly, we are all in the middle of a world wide crisis. I wondered if I should write a new blog, abuot that sudden situation, but my conclution were-NO! In this time of crisis, it is more important than ever, to try to keep our daily routines. Our TOPIC OF THE MONTH blogs, are exactly that, a tool for staying with our routines, and stick to the plan!

So that is what we do, cling to our plan the best we can.

The topic of march

The last couple of months we have worked with canter and transitions, and the topic of March, is "the different arena patterns". We are choosing this because  it is a perfect diagnostic tool, in finding lacks and gaps in our education. Both for horse and rider.

It reveals where you are in your riding today, and give you the perfect opportunety to simplify your aids if needed, or you can add different schools into the patterns, to make them more interesting for your horse, or to improve his balance and suppleness. It all depends on what is needed in your education right now.

ask yourself...???

If you are riding a diagonal, are you able to keep the line straight? Is the horse still relaxed, or is there a change in the forwardness?

Can you keep a circle round, or are you falling in or out, here and there? Is there a tendency for falling more in on one hand, or does the horse feel stiff in one side?

How are you doing the change of bending on the serpentines?

Is it easier on a smaller circle than a bigger, or the opposite?

All these questions will be answered as soon as we start riding different patterns. And, that is exactly what we are going to do this month!

change of plans?

The spring is coming to Norway, and the clinic season was about to start. Because of the pandemic, we are all stuck around our homes, and all clinics are cancelled. We, as humans, are rapidly adapting to the new situation and instructors all over the world are offering online lessons in different forms. In  this case, it is important to be prepared in knowing what we need the different instuctores to look at, and help us with. Riding the arena patterns as neat as possible, is a great thing to do to figure those things out.
For online training, ask us here :)
As an example:
Me and Bolcher have a struggle in the change of bending from left to right. Then we need to do the change in 3-4 steps, while the other way around, we can do the swap at once. "Easy peacy!"

As the picture shows, I tend to fall farward, as I try to take the bending from pulling the inner rein.

Its easier for us to relax in to the new bending to the left.

I have also noticed that he is less sensetive for my lower leg aids, so now I have to figure out, WHY!

Allways take a look at the basics

When I start to figure out our weaknesses, I have to look at the basics...again!
I struggle with the shift of bending on the serpentine, and maybe the problem isn't the bending from one side to the other, but the straightness in between. That is what I then tested, and voila!, I had a little problem there, and then I needed to focus on having my hips square a couple of trides before asking for a new bending. That helped alot.

About my lower leg aids, I think he has been a bit desensetized, so then I must work with me, doing less. I have to work on relaxing in my back and seat, and keep my legs still. One way to force my self to do this, is to ride without a saddle for a while. Then, I need to relax into every movement, or the ride will be quite bumpy!

This means that we have to work with
Basics for the Human
1. Relaxation
4. Influence
Basics for the Horse
2. Lightness for the aids

4. Balance

More about the basics

keep on growing strong, and Stay corona safe :)
